Indonesian oil and gas company Pertamina is eyeing a stake in an FLNG development in the Arafura Sea, off Indonesia.
According to Reuters, Pertamina is interested in buying a share in the Inpex-operated Abadi FLNG project located in the Masela Block, where first gas production originally is slated for 2018, will kick off in 2022.
The news agency has quoted and Indonesian official who said that Pertamina was interested in having a share in the area, “because this is a new block and it has big potential.”
The Abadi gas field, run by Japan’s Inpex through an Indonesian subsidiary, will be developed in phases. For the first phase an FLNG unit will be constructed and utilized for the annual LNG production of 2.5 million ton.
The Abadi gas field was discovered in 2000, and the subsequent six appraisal wells and the reservoir study results confirmed sufficient gas reserves for LNG evelopment.
Inpex owns 65% share in the block, with Shell owning 35%.
