From 11 to 13 May 2015, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) carried out an audit of Statoil’s control and management of materials handling, the technical condition of lifting equipment and the company’s management of lifting equipment maintenance at Grane platform, in the central North Sea.
According to PSA, the objective of the audit was to verify that Statoil’s control and management of cranes and lifting operations, and management of lifting equipment maintenance at Grane comply with the regulations.
PSA found non-conformities in connection with lifting operations on the pipe deck, lifting gear, maintenance, temporary lifting facility, and scaffolding.
In addition, improvement points were identified in connection with checking of lifting equipment, unprotected cable ducts, oil mist from offshore cranes, and steel rope certificates.
Statoil has been given a deadline of August 3, 2015 to report on how the non-conformities and improvement points will be dealt with, PSA says.
Grane oilfield
Grane is an oilfield located around 185 kilometres west of Haugesund in the central North Sea. Water depth is 128 metres. The field has been developed using a fixed integrated production, drilling and accommodation platform with a steel jacket. The facility has 40 well slots.
The field was discovered by Hydro in 1991, and came on stream on September 23, 2003. Grane is the first field on the Norwegian continental shelf to produce heavy crude oil.
