Statfjord C production platform, located in the North Sea, is celebrating 30 years today, June 26, 2015, since it started producing oil.
Statfjord, one of the North Sea’s oldest and largest oil fields, was developed at water depths of roughly 145 metres with the Statfjord A, B and C production platforms, which all have concrete gravity base structures incorporating storage cells.
Statfjord’s first production platform, Statfjord A, began production on November 24, 1979 and the field, together with its first platform, already celebrated its 30-year anniversary in 2009.
Statfjord B followed on November 5, 1982, and Statfjord C on June 26, 1985.
When drilling and well work are under way on the field, about 240 people are employed on Statfjord C. The platform is 290 metres high and has storage volume of 302 000 m3.
The field was discovered in 1974 by Mobil and Norwegian oil and gas giant Statoil took over operatorship in 1987. The Norwegian share of the field lies in blocks 33/9 and 33/12 in production licence 037, while the British part is in UK block 211/25 in licences 104 and 293.
According to Statoil, the field will remain in production until 2025 and possibilities to further expand the lifetime are being looked into.
