The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has given Premier Oil Norge AS consent to use Maersk Guardian rig to drill exploration well 3/7-10 S in the southern part of the Norwegian North Sea.
Premier Oil is the operator for production licence 539 in block 3/7 in Myrhauk formation, located in the North Sea, around 240 kilometres from the nearest mainland at Lista. The company hired Maersk Guardian for Myrhauk exploration well in December 2013 which was the first time for Maersk Drilling to enter into agreement with Premier Oil in Norway.
The PSA said that drilling is scheduled to begin in August 2015 and estimated to last 62 days, depending on whether a discovery is made.
Mærsk Guardian jack-up drilling rig is owned and operated by the A.P. Møller-Mærsk Group. It was built in Japan by Hitachi and completed in 1986. The rig received Acknowledgement of Compliance on November 1, 2002.
In addition, Premier Oil received today a drilling permit for well 3/7-10 S from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD).
Premier Oil Norge AS is the operator of the licence with an ownership interest of 40%. The other licensees are Suncor Energy Norge AS (20%), DEA Norge AS (12%) and Ithaca Petroleum Norge AS (8%).
