From June 9-11 2015, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) carried out an audit of Det norske’s barrier management in the Ivar Aasen development project, located in the Norwegian North Sea.
According to the PSA, the objective of the audit was to monitor Det norske’s establishment and implementation of a management system for ensuring compliance with the regulatory requirements for risk and barrier management from a life-cycle perspective.
The regulator did not identify any non-conformities, but improvement points were identified in connection with fire duration, fire barriers, and ignition source control.
The PSA has given Det norske a deadline of August 7, 2015 to report on how the improvement points will be dealt with.
Ivar Aasen
Det norske describes the Ivar Aasen field as its first major development project as operator, as it contains approximately 204 million barrels of oil equivalents, about 71 mmboe net to Det norske.
According to the company, the field development project is progressing according to schedule towards a planned start-up in the fourth quarter 2016.
The anticipated economic life of Ivar Aasen is 20 years, depending on oil price and production trend.
