Shell Offshore has awarded transportation contract of the Appomattox Platform to COSCO Shipping Company Limited.
According to its press release, COSCO signed a contract with Shell Offshore Inc. on July 6, 2015, for the transportation of the Appomattox semi-submersible offshore platform hull from South Korea to Ingleside, Texas.
This contract was awarded as part of an Enterprise frame agreement between Shell and COSCO.
COSCO said that Shell’s 41,165 metric ton hull will be transported on COSCOL’s new-building 98,000 deadweight ton vessel “Guang Hua Kou”. The vessel is currently under construction at the COMEC shipyard in Guangzhou, China and expected to be delivered in to service late 2016.
To remind, Shell recently made the final investment decision (FID) to advance the Appomattox deep-water development in the Gulf of Mexico. This decision authorised the construction and installation of Shell’s eighth and largest floating platform in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Appomattox development will initially produce from the Appomattox and Vicksburg fields. According to Shell, the development host will consist of a semi-submersible, four-column production host platform, a subsea system featuring six drill centres, 15 producing wells, and five water injection wells.
