The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has given Statoil consent to use Songa Trym drilling rig for drilling an exploration well in block 15/3, in the southern North Sea.
Statoil is the operator for exploration licences 025 and 187 in the North Sea block. This consent applies to drilling of the exploration well 15/3-10 in a prospect named Sigrun East. The PSA notes that the application also covers a potential sidetrack.
The area where the well is to be drilled is around 180 km west-south-west of Utsira in Rogaland and around 40 km north of the Volve field. Water depth at the site is 107 metres.
Drilling is scheduled to begin in the first part of October. Including the sidetrack, drilling will last a total of around 73 days, the PSA says.
Songa Trym is a semi-submersible drilling rig of the Aker H-3 type. It was built at Aker Verdal in 1976 and has been upgraded several times, most recently in 2013. The rig is operated by Songa Offshore.
