State Rep. Patricia Haddad is hoping to bring offshore wind industry to Massachusetts.

Namely, after accepting an invitation from the Danish Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Climate, Haddad embarked on a four-day trip to Denmark with a group of legislators and industry leaders, writes Wicked Local Somerset.

“I am hoping to help create that new industry here in Massachusetts,” Haddad said.

Earlier this year, she introduced a bill which requires utilities to conduct periodic joint solicitations for proposals from offshore wind energy developers no later than 30 June 2016. The first solicitation would be for 1.5 million MWh per annum, followed by 1 million MWh that must occur within 24 months of the previous solicitation.

The delegation will visit the largest Danish offshore wind farm, Anholt, and operations base, Port of Grenaa.
