The Tidal Lagoon Swansea Bay (TLSB) team has produced two posters to help Key Stage 2 teachers explore the subjects of renewable energy and tidal lagoons when teaching their students about topics such as ‘coasts’ and ‘energy’.

The climate change poster explores the topics of climate change and greenhouse gases, the impact that they have on the planet and the environment and why we can no longer depend on fossil fuels to generate electricity. The learning resources aims to help teachers get their pupils actively thinking about the devastating consequences of climate change and the future of renewable and sustainable energy – including tidal.

The tidal energy and tidal lagoon poster helps children to understand the science behind the tides and how they can generate clean, renewable energy – both from tidal streams and tidal lagoons. Students are encouraged to consider the merits of both and what a tidal lagoon in Swansea Bay could mean for the future of the planet.

The materials can simply act as a source of information for teachers but also be integrated into lesson plans and used as materials to engage with students. For instance, teachers are welcome to print the posters and incorporate into wall displays, use as handouts to form the basis of a class discussions or form part of homework assignments, the company behind the project said.
