Danish drilling contractor Maersk Drilling has reported that its jack-up rig Mærsk Giant is being repaired due to a damaged spudcan.

The Danish company in a tweet on October 1, said that the rig would be ready for the new contract start with DONG Energy in November.

The Marine Traffic data show that the rig has been moored in Rotterdam at the Keppel Verolme yard since September 30.

To remind, Maersk Drilling announced in August that it had been awarded a new contract for the ‘Mærsk Giant ‘ with DONG for work in the Danish part of the North Sea.

The firm contract with DONG covers 150 days of work on the Nini and Siri field offshore Denmark while the estimated contract value is $6 million.

Previously, the rig had been hired by Talisman Energy. The Canada-based operator used the Maersk Giant for several well plugging operations on the Varg field in the Norwegian section of the North Sea.
