Indian offshore drilling company Aban Offshore has secured a contract for one of its jack-up rigs.

The 34 years old rig, Aban II, will work for ONGC, the national oil company of India, for a period of three years. The rig, formerly known as the Griffin Alexander III, was built in 1981 in Bethlehem Sparrows Point Shipyard in the U.S.

According to a statement by Aban Offshore, the value of the contract is $50 million. The contract is expected to start during the first quarter of 2016.

While Aban Offshore did not say anything about the rig’s deployment destination, the Aban II AIS data, dated October 13, 2015, shows the drilling unit is moored offshore Kakinada, at the east coast of India.
