Norwegian oil and gas major Statoil has reached a milestone this week, as it has been ten years since the high-pressure/high-temperature Kristin field in the Norwegian Sea came on stream.
Discovered in 1996, the Kristin gas and condensate field is located in the south-western part of the Halten Bank in the Norwegian Sea. It has been developed with 12 production wells in four subsea templates, tied back to a semi-submersible production platform.
Located in the reservoir 5000 meters below the seabed, the field came on stream on November 3, 2005.
According to Statoil, the Kristin field is one of the most demanding subsea development ever conducted on the Norwegian continental shelf, due to high pressure and temperature in the reservoir, at 900 bar and 170°C, respectively.
Approximately 290 million barrels of oil and 45 billion standard cubic meters of gas passed through the Kristin platform since the start of the production.
