Boskalis has completed reinforcing Maersk Oil’s Dan Bravo platform in the North Sea, offshore Denmark.
Dan is the oldest producing field in Denmark. The oil production started on July 4, 1972, and according to Maersk Oil, close to 28 % of total Danish oil production has been extracted from the Dan Field.
The work of reinforcing the platform included installation of 136 tons of steel which contains 88 connections, involving more than 200 diving days.
The main scope was to reinforce Dan A’s jacket, using K-node clamps, and to install a new conductor guide level.
Conductor guide level installation was done by air diving. Dive bell was lowered and divers did the preparation works, which included grit blasting and flush grinding wells.
After that, the new conductor guide level could be positioned with the assistance of the divers. Upon placing the new conductor guide level, saturation divers installed K-node clamp.
They used the diamond wire cutting machine for preparing the structure for reinforcement clamps. 1888 bolts were installed and hydraulic bolt tensioning was then performed.
Boskalis says that reinforcing of the platforms in this way and on this scale has never been done before.
According to the company, the project has been executed during 2013 up to 2015 and is successfully completed, using Boskalis Subsea’s Diving Support Vessels “Constructor” and “Protea”.
