Quadrant Energy, an Australian oil and gas company, has started drilling the Roc-1 well, offshore Australia.
The Roc-1 well is located in licence WA-437-P, offshore Western Australia, and adjacent to the recent Phoenix South-1 oil discovery by Apache, in November.
According to Carnarvon Petroleum, a partner in the project, the well was spud on November 24, 2015 with the Noble Tom Prosser jack-up rig. Drilling is expected to take approximately 35 to 40 days and, trouble free, it should reach Total Depth of 4,700m.
Well logging and sidewall coring are expected to take approximately 5 to 10 days on success case, Carnarvon said.
The drilling operations should have started in early to mid November 2015 ; however, the operator experienced delays. Namely, the rig was waiting for certification of in-transit safety case modifications before the drilling started.
Quadrant Energy is the operator of the licence WA-437-P with 40% interest, and its partners are Carnarvon Petroleum, JX Nippon and Finder Exploration, all holding 20% interest in the licence.
