Crowley said on Wednesday that its unit, Crowley Puerto Rico Services, named Eagle LNG as the supplier for its two LNG-powered ships currently under construction at VT Halter Marine shipyard.
Under the agreement between the two companies, Eagle LNG will build a 200,000 gallons per day LNG facility in Jacksonville, Florida that is planned to become operational in 2017.
The two vessels are scheduled for delivery in the first and fourth quarter of 2017.
The facility is a separate project from Eagle LNG’s LNG export terminal located along the St. Johns river in Jacksonville, Florida, Crowley said in a statement.
Crowley’s vessels which will be named El Coqui and Taino will be 219.5 meters long, 32.3 meters wide, have a deep draft of 10 meters, and an approximate deadweight capacity of 26,500 metric tons. Cargo capacity will be approximately 2,400 TEUs, with additional space for nearly 400 vehicles in an enclosed Ro/Ro garage.
Both vessels will be used in the U.S. mainland to Puerto Rico trade.
