Onshore works for the Hornsea Project One wind farm are scheduled to start this month with the construction of an onshore substation at North Killingholme, North Lincolnshire.
This will be followed by burying an onshore cable underground and works around the landfall site where the onshore cable meets the offshore cable. The cable route on land will run approximately 40km from the landfall site at Horseshoe Point to where it will connect to the national grid in North Killingholme. The cable installation works are set to begin in April 2017.
DONG Energy will be hosting a community exhibition on Thursday, 14th January, to provide members of the local community with an opportunity to find out more about the project. The exhibition will focus on the onshore substation works.
Balfour Beatty has been appointed the principal contractor for the construction of the high voltage onshore substation, which includes the construction of core buildings and compounds, the installation of low voltage electricity equipment, low voltage cables, and communication cables as well as roads, paths, drainage and landscaping. The 2.5-year contract also covers the installation of high voltage electrical equipment by third parties.
Hornsea Project One will comprise up to 240 wind turbines, each between 5MW and 8MW capacity, and will be located 120km off the Yorkshire coast, covering approximately 407 square kilometres.
Offshore construction is scheduled to begin in 2018, and the wind farm is expected to be operational in 2020.
