Offshore service contractor, POSH Terasea, on Saturday said it has been contracted to provide towage and positioning services for Shell’s Prelude FLNG facility.

The joint venture between PACC Offshore Services and Terasea, will tow the Prelude FLNG over 3,000 nautical miles from Samsung Heavy Industries’ Geoje shipyard in South Korea, where it is being built, to its final position in Australia, according to the company’s statement.

Once towed to Australia, Posh Terasea will position the Prelude FLNG before it starts production at the Prelude gas field in the Browse basin, 475 kilometres north-northeast of Broome, Western Australia.

POSH Terasea, that will be in charge of the overall towage project management, will deploy five vessels to tow the 600,000-ton giant into place.

Once operational, the Prelude FLNG facility will produce at least 5.3 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of liquids: 3.6 mtpa of LNG, 1.3 mtpa of condensate (equivalent to 35,000 bbl/d) and 0.4 mtpa of LPG.
