According to the consultancy company McKinsey, German Energy Transition (Energiewende) Index is showing a declining trend with key objectives of the energy policy still out of reach.

Ten out of fifteen indicators that depict the status of the energy transition in Germany have worsened since the last publication in September, 2015. This applies in particular to energy cost and emission issues.

Seven indicators, now including the electricity consumption, have been considered unlikely to reach their target, and there is still need for the adjustment of transmission networks development.

However, there is one good news: the connection of offshore wind farms achieved the 2020 target ahead of schedule, McKinsey said.

Indicators marked as realistic for the achievement of the objectives are: offshore wind farm grid connections, offshore wind expansion, Solar/PV construction, power outages (outage duration decreased), secured reserve margin, jobs in renewable energy industry and jobs in electricity-intensive industries.
