Venture Global LNG filed an application with the U.S. Department of Energy for a long-term permit to export LNG to FTA and non-FTA countries from its Plaquemines project in Louisiana.

According to the filing, Venture Global, through its unit Venture Global Plaquemines LNG, is looking to export up to a total of 1240 billion cubic feet of natural gas per year, or 24 mtpa of liquefied natural gas.

The Plaquemines LNG project would be located in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, near river mile marker 55 on the west bank of the Mississippi River.

The proposed facility would consist of 20 pre-cooled single mixed refrigerant (SMR) blocks, four 200,000 cubic meter LNG storage tanks, three marine loading berths for oceangoing vessels within a common berthing area, and on-site electric power generation.

Each LNG block would have a nameplate liquefaction capacity of 1 million tons per annum. Each marine loading berth would be able to accommodate LNG carrier with the capacity between 120,000 cbm and 210,000 cbm.

The project is proposed to be built in two phases, the first including 10 of the LNG blocks, two storage tanks, two marine loading berths and on-site power generation. The second phase of the project would be constructed in case of an increased market demand.

Full commencement of the project’s first phase is expected in the first quarter of 2020.
