The Norwegian Oil and Gas Association (Norsk Olje & Gass), a professional body and employer’s association for oil and supplier companies in Norway, has forecasted that 22,000 new oil jobs will be needed by 2020 in Norway.

According to figures from an independent research institute, IRIS, from 2018 to 2020 there will be 22,000 new employees in the oil and gas industry.

Karl Eirik Schjøtt- Pedersen , CEO of Norwegian Oil and Gas Association, stated that those who start their education in 2016, will be welcomed with open arms by the oil and gas industry once they graduate.

The organization’s latest forecast is that the industry will hit the bottom at the beginning of 2018, after which the things are expected to turn around.

According to the report, the oil and gas industry will need to recruit around 13,000 workers between 2018 and 2020. In addition, 9,000 workers will need to be replaced. This means that the overall demand for recruitment will amount to 22,000 positions. The assumption for these projections is that the oil price will go up during 2017.

However, by the time the recovery starts, up to 50,000 jobs in the oil industry will be lost, including 38,000 already lost by March 2016, and 12,000 more in 2016 and 2017.
