In today’s infographic we bring you a list of the top five shipyards ranked by the market value of the newbuilding contracts currently on order.

The infographic, released by the valuation provider VesselsValue, shows that South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) is ranked first with over USD 24.4 billion worth of vessels on order.

Other shipbuilding companies seen in the infographic are Seoul-based Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), ranked just after HHI with over USD 19.9 billion vessels on order, China State Shipbuilding Corp with an orderbook of over USD 15 billion, followed by Samsung Heavy Industries and Japanese Imabari Shipbuilding each with an orderbook of around USD 10 billion.

“The current top five shipbuilding groups have seen a significant decline in value of their orderbooks year-on-year since March 2015,” Senior Data Editor, Craig Jallal, said.

“Hyundai HI has suffered the largest decline, down by 12%, but fifth-placed Imabari of Japan, enjoyed a 9% increase in the value of its orderbook.”
