New York-based LS Energy joined forces with a former GDF Suez Energy North America CEO Zin Smati to launch Life Energy, a new energy company.

According to a joint statement by LS Energy and Smati, Life Energy will focus on providing electricity, gas, mobile LNG, solar and distributed generation to residential and business customers throughout North America.

The company will be based in Houston with plans to expand to Mexico and Canada and will be headed by Smati.

He said that “the North American energy industry is in a state of transition,” noting the newly created company will attempt to exploit the market opportunities.

Smati, who has more than 25 years of experience in the industry, led GDF Suez Energy North America, a part of Engie, where he was in charge of energy businesses in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, including power generation, LNG, gas distribution and midstream, marketing and trading and retail energy.
