Iraqi Basrah Gas Company on Sunday said it has exported the first gas condensate cargo from its marine terminal in Umm Qasr.
Created in 2013, BGC is a joint venture between the state-owned South Gas Company with a 51 percent stake, Shell with 44 percent and Mitsubishi with a 5 percent stake.
The first export of approximately 10,000 cubic meters is heading for the Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, the company said in a statement.
BGC noted it mixes the associated gas captured from the country’s southern oil fields and mixes it with imported gasoline in the process of preparation for exports. The associated gas would otherwise be flared off as a waste product.
The Umm Qasr storage terminal and marine terminal are located south of the Basrah City.
The storage terminal is connected by a 7.5 km pipeline to the Khor Al Zubair gas processing plant. Further pipelines connect the storage terminal to the marine terminal.
