Searcher Seismic, an independent multi-client company providing seismic datasets and associated products to the oil & gas industry, has through its Seisintel product range provided a snapshot of global seismic activity in March.

Seisintel, launched in August 2015, uses S-Automatic Identification System (AIS) data to offer near real time seismic navigation from all corners of the globe.

While Searcher Seismic expects increased seismic activity in the north next month, when the summer season is starting, March has been a busy month in Myanmar.

According to the multi-client company, four of the largest seismic spreads in history are being towed for Shell, PTTEP, Woodside, BG and Berlanga.

Seisintel’s data shows that vessels that are currently operating offshore Myanmar include Polarcus Asima, in campaign for PTTEP, PGS Apollo for Berlanga, Ramform Titan for Woodside, Ramform Sovereign for BG Group, and Polarcus Amani for Shell.

When oil prices go down, the seismic market is among the first in the oilfield services segment to be affected by it as oil companies start scaling back their exploration efforts.

Ever since the latest period of extremely low oil prices started in mid-2014, seismic companies have been experiencing difficult times and, according to GC Rieber Shipping , a Norwegian company owning subsea, seismic and ice-support vessels, the market is expected to remain difficult in 2016.
