LNG Limited’s Bear Head LNG agreed to buy additional land from Nova Scotia Business for possible expansion of its liquefied natural gas export facility on the Strait of Canso in Richmond County, Nova Scotia.
Maurice Brand, President of Bear Head LNG and LNG Limited’s managing director and CEO said in a statement on Tuesday, additional land enables the company to increase the capacity of the facility “from a nominal eight million tons per annum ( mtpa ) up to 12 mtpa in 2024.”
Under the agreement reached with NSBI, Bear Head LNG will acquire an additional 72‐acres of land directly adjacent to its existing 255‐acre site on the Strait of Canso.
Bear Head LNG secured clearances from the US Department of Energy and the Canadian National Energy Board to export up to 12 mtpa of LNG.
According to the project’s website, the initial 8 mtpa facility would consist of four trains, two 180,000 cbm LNG storage tanks and a marine terminal and associated infrastructure able to receive LNG carriers with a capacity up to 267,000 cbm.
The first LNG production from the facility is targeted for 2019-2020.
