A consortium of Port of Frederikshavn, Kosan Crisplant and Stena Line have on Tuesday kicked off the EU co-financed Nordic Maritime Hub project.

Under the project, the consortium intends to improve the port access facilities, establishing shore side power supply to be used by Stena Line’s ferries, and by establishing LNG bunkering facilities, a statement by the group reveals.

The consortium named Kosan Crisplant responsible for establishing the LNG bunkering facility in the Port of Frederikshavn in the northern part of Denmark.

Commercial director of Kosan Crisplant, Bo Larsen added that an additional agreement has been signed with another consortium to establish a production facility for LNG and LBG (liquefied biogas) in Frederikshavn.

As previously reported, Bunker Holdings’ subsidiary, Unioil Supply, and Kosan Crisplant are planning to build the LNG production facility at the port.

EU will provide approximately €3 million of TEN-T funding through its Connecting Europe Facility for the Port of Frederikshavn expansion which includes the LNG bunkering facility.

The total cost of the expansion is estimated at €14.5 million, and it is intended to upgrade the maritime links between the ports of Frederikshavn and Gothenburg and Oslo. Port of Frederikshavn collaborated with NTU International, an Aalborg-based Danish consultancy company on the project.
