French LNG player Engie on Wednesday said it is planning to invest up to €100 million into building liquefied natural gas and compressed natural gas filling station in Europe.
The investment, starting now and running through to 2020, will cover construction of 70 LNG stations in European countries and 30 CNG stations in France, the company’s statement reveals.
Engie noted that there are currently 3000 CNG stations in Europe with 75 LNG stations in operation, adding that expanding the distribution network will bring customers and truck manufacturers, as well as the national and European authorities to move to an alternative fuel such as LNG.
The French company is already operating CNG and LNG stations in Europe and entered partnership with NYK and Mitsubishi Corporation to construct and operate an LNG bunkering vessel at the port of Zeebrugge, with scheduled operations start in 2016.
It was also recently chosen by the Antwerp Port Authority to build and operate the LNG bunkering station for barges with expected start of operations in 2017.
