Miami-headquartered cruise company Carnival Corporation & plc. is seeking to employ thousands of crew members on its new fleet additions.
The ships in need of the new workforce include the recently-delivered Koningsdam built by Fincantieri and AIDAprima built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), along with the upcoming cruise ships Seabourn Encore and the Carnival Vista taking shape at Fincantieri. The latter two are to be delivered in April and December 2016 respectively.
The cruise liner is looking for employees with vast varieties of profiles such as professional crew members, entertainers, cooks, etc. Only for the cruise ship Carnival Vista, the company needs to fill 1,450 positions.
Just last week, Carnival finalized contracts with Fincantieri to build five new cruise ships including two that will be built for Costa Asia for deployment in China, two ships for Princess Cruises and one designated for P&O Cruises Australia, with deliveries expected in 2019 and 2020.
The announcement on new hiring comes as Carnival reports a big jump in its net income of USD 142 million in the first quarter of 2016, compared to a net income of USD 49 million seen in the same period a year earlier. Revenues for the first quarter of 2016 were USD 3.7 billion compared to USD 3.5 billion in the prior year.
