German crude oil and natural gas producer, Wintershall, has received consent from the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) to use two Island Offshore’s vessels on the Vega field, in the North Sea.
Island Offshore’s two well intervention vessels, Island Wellserver and Island Frontier, will be used for intervention work on the wells in the Vega field that lies north of the Fram field in the northern part of the North Sea, offshore Norway.
Island Wellserver was built in 2008 by Aker Yards Langsten, while the second vessel, Island Frontier, was built in 2004 by Søviknes Verft.
Water depth at the site is 370 metres. The field consists of three separate gas and condensate occurrences: 35/8-1, 35/8-2 Vega and 35/11-2 Vega Sør.
A combined PDO for Vega and Vega Sør was approved by the authorities in June 2007. The field has been developed using three subsea templates tied back to the Gjøa field processing platform.
Wintershall Norge is the operator of the Vega field since March 2015 since it took over operatorship from Statoil.
