The Port of Antwerp Authority has granted the French LNG player Engie a 30-year concession for the development of an LNG bunker and filling station.
According to a statement by Engie, the facility to be built at Quays 526-528 in the Port of Antwerp will consist of a bunker and filling station with LNG for inland navigation and road transport.
The LNG bunker and filling station will consist of a standalone unit with permanent LNG storage capacity and a flexible bunkering arm.
The facility will also feature a compressed natural gas station and rapid chargers for electric vehicles.
According to Engie, the facility will be the first shore-to-ship LNG bunkering station in Europe for inland and coastal navigation, dredgers and tugboats.
LNG World News reported in March that the concession will take effect on October 1, 2016, while the completion of the project’s first phase is expected to be operational by the end of 2017, making liquefied natural gas permanently available in the Port of Antwerp.
