Dutch shipbuilder Ferus Smit launched Symphony Sun, the fourth of six multipurpose vessels being built for its compatriot shipping company Symphony Shipping BV, on April 29, in Leer, Germany.
Symphony Sun features an Ecobox design and a large loading floor for project cargoes, including complete movable tweendeck. The vessel has also two 85-ton cargo cranes.
Its deckhouse is placed on foreship for better protection of deck cargo, enabling to load oversized items over the stern.
Symphony Sun has the ability to sail in all weather conditions without maindeck hatches to transport large project cargoes without height restrictions.
With its gross tonnage of 6,749t, the vessel has a length of 122.8 meters and a width of 17 meters.
In addition, Symphony Sun’s propeller is equipped with a duct for enhanced thrust at lower speeds and reduction of maximum installed propulsion power.
The 10,545 dwt vessel is scheduled for delivery in June this year. Its sister ship, Nordana Sea, was delivered in February 2016.
Symphony Shipping’s fleet consists of six multipurpose vessels, including the newly built Symphony Sun and two other vessels scheduled for delivery in 2017 and 2018. The company also has two long range supply vessels on order at Ferus Smit.
The company ordered the six Ecobox design vessels from Ferus Smit in November 2013.
