Turbine Transfers, a wholly owned subsidiary of Holyhead Towing Company, has won a contract to support Van Oord during the installation of foundations at the 258MW Burbo Bank Extension offshore wind farm in Liverpool Bay.
Porth Eilian, an 18-metre offshore support vessel, has been deployed to provide crew transfer services to construction vessels in the field.
The construction works at the site started this week and will continue for the next several months, Andy Natras, Business Development Manager at Holyhead Towing, told Offshore WIND.
Van Oord won a contract to install 32 foundations at the wind farm in June 2015. Van Oord is in charge of installing the project’s 32 monopiles and transition piece foundations, supplying and installing the scour protection, and providing the logistics between the fabrication ports in Germany, Denmark, the United Kingdom and the offshore wind farm. The heavy lift vessel Svanen will install the wind farm’s foundations.
The Burbo Bank Extension offshore wind farm, located 8 kilometres off the coast in Liverpool Bay, will comprise a total of 32 MW Vestas wind turbines. The installation of wind turbines is scheduled for autumn 2016, and the wind farm is expected to be commissioned in 2017.
