Shell-led LNG Canada on Thursday said it is beginning engineering and planning work on its workforce accommodation centre to house workforce during construction of the proposed liquefaction and export facility in Kitimat, British Columbia.
LNG Canada selected the Bird-Civeo joint venture as the contractor for the design and construction of the Centre, according to the company’s statement.
However, the construction on Cedar Valley Lodge will not commence unless LNG Canada’s joint venture participants have made a positive final investment decision.
LNG giant Shell said in February it is postponing final investment decision on its multi-billion LNG Canada project to late 2016 as the company is reducing costs and capital investment in a low oil price environment.
LNG Canada, a joint venture company comprised of Shell, PetroChina, Korea Gas Corporation and Mitsubishi Corporation is proposing to build an LNG export facility in Kitimat that initially would consist of two LNG trains each with the capacity to produce 6.5 million tonnes per annum of LNG, with an option to expand the project in the future to four trains.
