Inpex-operated $37 billion Ichthys LNG project reached a milestone as the final liquefaction train two module moved into place during April.
At 14 storeys high and 52 metres wide, the module weighed in at 4,000 tonnes and was transported into position using self-propelled modular transporters, project’s monthly update reveals.
JKC Area Construction Manager, Makoto Hikami , said, “the first module for Train 2 was delivered in December 2014 and we have now completed all 29 modules.”
On completion, the two LNG trains will have the capacity to produce up to 8.9 million tonnes of LNG per annum, approximately 6 percent more that initially planned.
Due to the capacity increase revealed in September last year, the project’s start-up has been pushed back from the end of this year to the first quarter in 2017, a target it is on track to achieve according to Louis Bon, managing director of the Ichthys project .
The Ichthys project is a joint venture between Japan’s Inpex, major partner Total of France, Taiwan’s CPC Corporation and the Australian subsidiaries of Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric, Chubu Electric Power and Toho Gas.
