Kosmos Energy on Monday said its Teranga-1 exploration well offshore Senegal encountered 31 meters (102 feet) of net gas pay, underpinning the potential for the development of an LNG project.
The company said the well, located in the Cayar Offshore Profond block approximately 65 kilometers northwest of Dakar in nearly 1,800 meters of water, was drilled to a total depth of 4,485 meters.
Kosmos has drilled five consecutive exploration and appraisal wells with a 100 percent success rate and discovered a gross Pmean resource of approximately 25 Tcf and estimates the fairway may hold more than 50 Tcf of resource potential.
Andrew G. Inglis, chairman and chief executive officer, said, “We completed our appraisal drilling of the Tortue West discovery and delineated a world-class LNG resource with fewer wells than anticipated.”
Earlier in March, Kosmos Energy hit gas at the Ahmeyim-2 appraisal well offshore Mauritania encountering 78 meters of net gas pay in two reservoirs.
Speaking about the Ahmeyim-2 discovery, Inglis noted that Tortue is a competitive source of LNG and the company is working towards commercialization.
