Dutch Gate terminal has almost completed construction of its new LNG break bulk infrastructure located at the terminal site in Maasvlakte in Port of Rotterdam.
The new facility that included the construction of a smaller jetty, the third for the LNG terminal, is expected to boost the use of LNG as a transportation fuel in the Netherlands and Northwest Europe.
The new facility, with a maximum capacity of 280 berthing slots per year, enables the distribution and use of LNG as a fuel alternative for maritime vessels, ferries, trucks and industrial applications.
“ The construction of the break bulk expansion at Gate is progressing well, and according to the schedule. We expect to finish commissioning and start commercial operations towards the end of this summer. As of that moment, Gate’s customers will be able to supply the small scale LNG market from a dedicated small scale berth ,” Stefaan Adriaens , Commercial Manager at the Gate terminal told LNG World News on Thursday.
Hague-based LNG giant Shell is the launching customer for the break bulk project and has committed to buying capacity from Gate terminal.
Shell has already ordered an LNG bunker vessel to supply LNG-fuelled vessels in Northwest Europe. The new vessel will be based at the port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands, and will load from the new LNG break bulk infrastructure.
