The U.S. Coast Guard has shared the above image, showing the oil spill response efforts following a discharge from Shell’s Glider field in the Gulf of Mexico last week.
The image shows two 210-foot and two 95-foot vessels conduct skimming operations on May 14, 2016, in response to an estimated 88,200 gallons of crude oil discharged from a segment of flow line at the Glider Field approximately 90 miles south of Timbalier Island, Louisiana.
The vessels have removed a combined total of more than 51,000 gallons of oily-water mixture since the discharge on the morning of May 12, 2016, the Coast Guard said.
Shell on Sunday said it received approval from the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) to begin repairs at Glider. Production from the nearby Brutus field has resumed, while glider and other subsea tieback fields remain shut-in.
