Eagle LNG on Tuesday said it started construction on natural gas liquefaction facility in West Jacksonville, Florida.
The plant will be used to supply liquefied natural gas to Crowley Maritime’s LNG-powered Commitment Class ships that will serve the U.S. mainland to Puerto Rico trade route.
Around 80,000 gallons of LNG per day will be produced once the plant starts up in 2017, however, once in full operation, it will be producing 200,000 gallons of LNG per day, Eagle LNG said in its statement.
The plant’s production capacity is beyond the needs of Crowley Maritime so the remaining volumes will be sold to clients in the Southeast and in containers to customers in Puerto Rico.
The LNG plant has a 1,000,000-gallon storage tank and an LNG truck loading system and is also designed to load LNG ISO containers for supply to nearby island markets.
Eagle LNG is additionally building a fuel depot dockside at the Talleyrand Marine Terminal on the St. Johns River for LNG bunkering operations.
