Bangalore-headquartered GMR Group is eyeing construction of a 1.75 million tons per year LNG terminal at Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada sea port.
According to the minutes of meeting from the Ministry of Environment and Forests’ Expert Appraisal Committee, GMR is investing Rs 4.71 billion (approx. US$69.7 million) into an LNG facility that would include a GMR barge-mounted power plant located at the Kakinada Deep Water Port.
The development of the project would include building the necessary facility and equipment for ship berthing and mooring, LNG unloading arms, LNG storage and transportation, onshore cryogenic pipeline, a regasification facility and pipeline to connect the facility to the existing distribution grid.
Following a study, the berth 7 at the Kakinada Deep Waer Port has been selected as the best of three locations, with a 48.1 acres land requirement.
