Cheniere’s Corpus Christi LNG project moves ahead (Gallery)

Cheniere Energy recently informed the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission that its Corpus Christi liquefaction project has reached 33.5 completion.

U.S. LNG export player Cheniere Energy recently informed the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission that its Corpus Christi liquefaction project has reached 33.5 completion.

According to its April report, Cheniere said the engineering progressed to 98 percent while procurement progressed to 46.9 percent. Bechtel’s direct hire construction through April reached 5.7 percent.

Corpus Christi Liquefaction, a subsidiary of Cheniere, is developing an LNG export terminal at one of Cheniere’s existing sites that was previously permitted for a regasification terminal. The liquefaction project is being designed for three trains with expected aggregate nominal production capacity of up to 13.5 mtpa of LNG.

During the month of April, engineering focused on continuing to update design for concrete for IAC (Instrument Air Compressor), lighting plans, grounding plans, and cable tray plans, according to the report.

Procurement continued with the first chiller units of IAC package shipped while 3069 tons of structural steel and 1261 ISBL (Inside Battery Limits) aboveground pipe spools were received to site. Underground pipe spools and material shipments were also completed in the month of April.

Construction focused on progressing permanent plant concrete and steel, underground pipe, and above ground pipe. For site preparation work, construction completed weir box No: 6, 4, and 8 and placed concrete for two bulkheads caps and three mooring dolphins.

In the month of April, Bechtel completed concrete placements for twenty-six ethylene columns in Train 1 compressor area, Train 1 utility piperack base foundation, Train 1 heavies removal unit, Train 1 propane condensers third placement, as well as the first placement for Train 1 condensate stabilization, according to the report.

In the OSBL, Bechtel completed placing foundation for refrigerant storage, flare knockout drums Train 1 and Train 2, OSBL (Outside Battery Limits) utility pipe rack, OSBL process piperack, and OSBL compressor piperack.

At the LNG tanks, Bechtel completed erecting plate and placing concrete for the third wall lift at Tank A and began erecting the plate for the fourth wall lift. For Tank C, Bechtel completed placing concrete for the first wall lift and began erecting plate on the second wall lift.

Dredging of the marine berth was on hold in April, Cheniere said in the report.
