Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) recently informed its Bogue power plant in Montego Bay, St. James is now capable of running on natural gas following completion of conversion works.
According to the company’s statement the work, with a price tag of US$22.7 million has been completed at the end of April.
The arrival of LNG, which is being undertaken by the US-based New Fortress Energy, is expected by August of this year, at which point, the newly converted Bogue facility will start using liquefied natural gas to produce 120MW of electricity.
At the beginning of March, New Fortress Energy has signed a charter deal with Golar LNG to use its 2003-built, 138,500 cbm Golar Arctic as a floating storage unit.
