Alaska-based Resources Energy could start exporting liquefied natural gas to Japan by 2020-2021, according to Brian Murkowski, REI vice president.
LNG would be exported from a small-scale LNG facility with a 1 mtpa capacity proposed by Resources Energy, a unit of Japanese ERI.
Murkowski added that the FEED process for the project is expected to begin in the coming months, a statement by the Matanuska-Sustina Borough government reveals.
A Japanese delegation on Sunday visited Port MacKenzie where Resources Energy intends to build the facility to export Cook Inlet gas to Japan.
According to the REI website, the project intends to file its DOE application and start the FERC pre-filing process in 2016. It also plans to file its formal application during the year with the construction to begin in 2018 and last for two years.
