Balfour Beatty will construct an electricity substation at Blyth for the Blyth Offshore Wind Demonstrator project, developed by EDF Energy Renewables .

The power generated by the wind farm will be supplied to the substation for transmission to the National Grid.

The turbines will provide enough low carbon electricity to power 33,000 homes.

The 41.5MW project will use MHI Vestas’ wind turbines and will comprise 66Kv cable technology to be installed by VMBS. Concrete gravity base foundations will be built by Royal BAM Group and a new ‘float and sink’ installation method will be used on the project.

The project has permission for a maximum total generating capacity of almost 100 MW.
