Petronas’ first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) unit named PFLNG SATU has reached its destination at the Kanowit gas field, 180 kilometers offshore Sarawak.
The Malaysian oil giant informed through social media channels on Wednesday that, after a 2,120 nautical mile journey, the PFLNG1 unit arrived at its location on May 30, 2016.

The 365-meter-long vessel started its journey from the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) shipyard in Okpo, South Korea towards the gas field offshore Sarawak on May 14. Earlier in April, Petronas launched its second FLNG unit, the PFLNG2, at Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) shipyard in South Korea.
The contract for final positioning and mooring system hook-up works on the vessel was awarded last year to Alam Maritim. Earlier in June this year, Alam Maritim also received a contract award for the supply of miscellaneous marine spreads for the PFLNG1 project.
Petronas stated that, once set up, the PFLNG SATU will be the world’s first unit of the type in operation.
