One of the “Big Three” shipbuilders of South Korea, Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), will reportedly be invited to take part in the construction of India’s first Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) LNG terminal.
According to oil and gas company Fox Petroleum Limited, which will manage the facility, the terminal would be built in Karwar, Karnataka, India.
The terminal is expected to be Karwar’s second busiest port, handling about 35% of India’s LNG cargo.
Fox Petroleum said that the terminal is expected to fulfill design constraints imposed by concerning operational expectations, such as being permanently moored in 40 meters of water.
Furthermore, the company said that the facility should have a storage capacity of 330,000 m3 of LNG and maintain a constant draft condition while loading or offloading.
For successful commissioning of the project, the terminal has to satisfy regulations as set forth by the governments of The Karnataka and India, and other statutory and regulatory body.
World Maritime News contacted Fox Petroleum for more details on the matter, however, the company has still not replied.
