Plans for a tidal energy project in the Indian city of Thane, state of Maharashtra, have been revealed by Thane Municipal Corporation.
The company aims to set up a tidal energy plant at the confluence of the Thane creek and Ulhas river.
“The system is based on the tidal movements which happen twice a day as the water from the river flows into the creek and back. We will tap the energy present in the waves,” The Times of India quotes an official from Thane Municipal Corporation as saying.
A feasibility report for the project has already been issued, according to the news site, and Thane Municipal Corporation has prepared a proposal to obtain the approval from the authorities by the end of June.
