DONG Energy has awarded Reach Engineering and Diving Services (Reds) a 15-month contract to support the construction of Race Bank offshore wind farm.
As of this month, Reds will be on call for diving services during the construction of the 580MW wind farm, situated 17 miles off the Lincolnshire coast.
Following the contract win, Reds said that its £500,000 investment in Grimsby has paid off. Namely, the company set up a base in Grimsby late last year, as a result of a booming offshore wind industry in the city.
“This is our first major contract award in the area since we opened, having completed the investment in October. Hopefully it is the first of many,” Grimsby Telegraph quotes Ed Woodrow , sales and marketing director at Reds, as saying.
The company has set up a six-member team, which will use the vessel Helen Mary, equipped with a dive spread, to carry out subsea inspection and other work from the Port of Grimsby East, where DONG Energy is coordinating the construction.
Jason Ledden , Dong Energy’s construction project manager for Race Bank, said: “Dong Energy is committed to using local suppliers whenever possible and we are very pleased to be working with Reds to have a diving contingency agreement in place during construction of the Race Bank project. Every endeavour is made to design out diving in our construction techniques, however having a site managed dive set-up enables us to react quickly if divers are required, and is an important part of safety during the construction phase.”
