An investigation has been launched after a fire broke out on CNR International’s offshore platform Ninian South located in the UK sector of the North Sea.

Following reports of a fire on the North Sea platform, Offshore Energy Today reached out to the field operator seeking confirmation and further details on the incident.

The company’s spokesperson confirmed there was a fire on board its Ninian South platform following a GPA activation at approximately 00:00 this morning. Production was shutdown and the fire was swiftly extinguished, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also said that personnel were called to muster at the time and all are safe and well, and there are no plans to down man the installation.

The production remains shutdown as a precaution and a full investigation into this incident is underway, the spokesperson concluded.

The Ninian field is located in the Northern North Sea, around 386 km north-northeast of Aberdeen and it is comprised of three fixed platforms.

Oil from the field is processed onboard the Ninian South and Ninian Central platforms and exported to the Sullom Voe Terminal on the Shetland Islands via the Ninian Pipeline System.
