Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), RES Offshore and Lloyd’s Register have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on offshore wind collaboration.

The MOU was signed during the 11th Taiwan-UK Renewable Energy Conference held from 30 May to 1 June in Taiwan, where 14 UK companies and 22 delegates shared their expertise on renewable energy, especially on offshore wind industry.

Taiwan is moving toward increasing renewable energy supply and lifting its 2025 target to 20% renewable electricity generation. The future green energy policy will focus on the development of photovoltaics and offshore wind power, with 3GW of installed offshore wind capacity expected to be reached by 2025.

The government has adopted a promotion strategy for offshore wind power following the guideline of “first demonstration, then potential, lastly zonal development”, and will integrate the supply chain of offshore wind and form the national industrial team., according to Taiwanese Ministry of Economic Affairs.

An energy park for renewable energy research and development will be built in Shalun, Tainan, to create an innovation system on renewable energy technology.
