Offshore safety watchdog, the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA), has launched an investigation into an accident that occurred on Saturday on Eni’s Goliat FPSO offshore Norway.
Offshore Energy Today reported earlier today that an offshore worker was injured in an accident on Eni’s Goliat field in the Barents Sea.
The PSA now informed that the worker was injured during a cleanup work after completing unloading operation on board Eni’s Goliat FPSO.
During the operation, a wire rope got loose and hit the worker on the side of the head causing an injury after which he was transported to the University Hospital North Norway in Tromsø.
The PSA’s investigation team left for Hammerfest on Sunday, June 26. The aim of the investigation is to clarify the events and identify the triggering and underlying causes.
Goliat, located 85 kilometers northwest of Hammerfest, offshore northern Norway, is the first oil field to come on stream in the Barents Sea. It is developed using a floating cylindrical production and storage and offloading unit built in South Korea.
